Throughout the years, television captures viewers’ attention around the world every day. In the modern days, a genre known as reality television has vastly grown in popularity. Reality television has grown for one main reason: the curiosity of the public. It seems that as time moves on, people become more interested on how others live their lives. It is natural for humans to be curious on how others act, especially in today’s contemporary life styles, and with the latest technology, various styles can be found in little to no time. Reality television is based on the culture we live in today, which shows viewers the modern way of how others act and live. This in the long run can affect the public’s outlook on life. These people can be affected in different ways. They may want to be exactly like them, whether it makes a positive or negative impact depends on how the viewer perceives what he/she is watching.

For example, if a young girl watches American Idol and sees a female icon singing, this young girl may become interested in singing as well, which could affect what would have happened to her later on in life. This young girl may want to start taking singing lessons, rather than taking part in other activities. This new thinking may lead her to a long-lasting hobby or something even greater, such as becoming a famous singer like the female icon she watched on reality television. If she never watched American Idol and changed her views, she may have been to work minimum wage for the rest of her life, but this reality show has forever changed her life.  Visit the link here for more news of your favorite Reality TV stars of today.

There are several ways that reality television can influence a person’s life negatively. One way could degrade a person into a potential criminal, because the viewer has decided that this way of behaving is how he/she wishes to be. Any reality show that involves violence or equipment related to hostility can have an emotional impact on someone. A great example of a reality television show like this is Cops. This show is known for criminals undertaking illegal activities and running away from the law enforcement. Some may perceive the police officers as who they idol, but there are some that may perceive the life of a criminal as the thrill they crave for in life. Sadly, teenagers can be easily influenced and will begin to idolize the felonious people they see on reality television. Soon enough, that teenager will become another one of these wicked people. Teens often see themselves as invincible with no sense of bodily injury or mortality.

Another negative influence reality television can exhibit on the public is the standards that our society follows morally. Some may be persuaded to resemble the individuals on reality television because they adore how that person is treated, and they want that to be like that as well. On a reality television show called Jersey Shore, Snooki has been held at a higher standard for many females, because of all the attention she obtains on the show. When Snooki talks, the men always pay attention to what she says, which most females desire. Some women believe they can acquire that kind of attention if they either behave or dress like her, rather than being themselves. These women compromise their own moral values to be like Snooki, realizing at the end, the respect lost was more important than the attention gained. This venerating occurs quite often with the public because it fulfills the need to be accepted by his/her peers.

As reality television continues growing, so does the mimicking of others. More than ever, people are becoming more dependent on others opinions, rather than thinking for themselves. The latest trend of conforming to the social norm and emulating celebrities is one of the main reasons why we do not have more leaders in the world. There are less people who would stand up for what they believe is right, now more than ever before. One of our country’s greatest leaders was Martin Luther King Jr. This man was undeniably known for thinking for himself and standing up for what he believed was right. If he had conformed to other’s beliefs, the United States could still have legal segregation.   Go here for info on the latest Cable TV and Intenet Deals

Reality television’s popularity has grown for all the reasons discussed previously. This category of television is indeed entertaining to watch, but can change the convictions of the public: whether it is beneficial for the viewer or not. Individuals changing their entire aspect of life, based on this genre of television do not usually value their standards in the long run. The show may be based on reality, but it is not the reality in which the majority of us live. Viewers should not manipulate their own life because of a program. The person who watches this type of television should be very careful not to get caught up in the glamour that Hollywood uses to boost ratings. Reminders that the show is for entertainment purposes only, and that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the camera may be beneficial future warning labels for all reality television shows.
